This airframe was damaged on 21 September 1971, at the PMRF, Barking Sands, Hawaii, and eventually written of on 30 September 1971.

Some information remains the same - on 22 July 1974, this SH-3G was assigned to HC-1, Det 4, however the demise of this Sea King occurred some 70 miles from Manila, in the Philippines, while operating from the USS Ranger. This source says that the Sea King was hit by an AIM-9 air-to-air missile fired from a McDonnell F-4 Phantom II, assigned to VF-21. The Sea King went down and the crew of six perished. Any further info?

Exported to Canada, registered as C-FAPO on 29 January 1988 to Can-Arc Helicopters Ltd, of Langley, British Columbia. Exported back to the US on 29 January 1990. Registered as N301Y on 1 August 2005. This registration was cancelled on 1 December 2005, as the aircraft was exported back to Canada. This S-61 was imported back to Canada in 2005. It was bought on 1 August 2006, by VIH Helicopters Ltd, of Saanich, British Columbia, and registered as C-FQNG on 17 November 2006. As of 1 November 2010, this registration is valid.

61-179, CHSS-2, 4001/12401, Notes: Built by Sikorsky and then to the Royal Canadian Navy, delivered on 24 May 1963 - S/N 4001 - as a CHSS-2. Assigned to HS 50 Squadron at RCNAS Shearwater, in Nova Scotia. Re-designated as CH-124A in 1969. S/N was changed to 12401 on 14 August 1970.  Upgraded to CH-124B specifications in the 1980s and again to CH-124B-2 in the early 1990s. This Sea King was damaged on 27 February 2003. Upon takeoff from the HMCS Iroquois (DDH-280), the aircraft experienced a single engine failure. after which the crew executed an emergency landing back aboard the ship. The aircraft rolled on its side and was damaged. The ship returned to Nova Scotia, where the airframe was craned ashore. It was then assigned as an instructional airframe. CP&W.
