Ohio, Wapakoneta - The Neil Armstrong Air and Space Museum

Wapakoneta. If the name leaves a funny look on your face, you’re not alone. This small community, located roughly one hour north of Dayton, Ohio, would be little more than a spot on the map were it not for the town’s favorite son. Along with being a refreshing stop off Interstate 75, Wapakoneta is the birthplace of Neil Armstrong, commander of the Apollo 11 mission and the first person to set foot on the Moon.
Almost before Armstrong returned from space, the citizens of Wapakoneta were organizing to build a museum in his honor. The result of their hard work, the Neil Armstrong Air and Space Museum, offers its visitors a unique way to experience America’s early space program while paying tribute to one of Wapakoneta’s shining stars.
