Note: The following Catalina airframes were issued Bureau Numbers that consisted of four digits, thus the earlier airframes had Bureau Numbers that began with a zero. The U.S. Navy stopped using this system in December 1940.

1216, XXX, Notes: During the Japanese invasion of Java this PBY-4 Catalina was abandoned by the U.S. Navy. It was subsequently taken up by the Dutch - the Netherlands East Indies Naval Air Force - who gave it the S/N Y-3. It was soon evacuated from Java to Australia where it was turned over to the Royal Australian Air Force, with the S/N A24-29. After overhaul it was assigned to No. 3 Operational Training Unit, which had the mission of training flying boat crews.
